Introduction
Genesis Publications create luxurious, limited-edition books for devoted collectors. They collaborate with some of the biggest names and estates in rock music, including Mick Fleetwood, George Harrison, Jimmy Page, David Bowie and Eric Clapton. They also work with internationally renowned photographers and other artists and writers.
I was commissioned to create a selection of illustrations for the cover of 'Jimmy Page: The Anthology'. The elaborate forms are traced from the design of one of Jimmy's iconic embroidered 'dragon jackets', and are woven around his 'zoso' insignia, derived from occult symbology. The designs were to be gold foil stamped into fine Italian leather bindings, with matt red foil picking out fine details.
Alternative design
An alternative design was created, referencing another embroidered design of vines and flowers taken from a guitar strap. The irregularities and undulations of the brocade thread and heavy fabric were preserved to create a distorted, trembling design.
